These are the most common questions asked about MEDtag. This category will be added to and is certainly the first place you need to peruse before making contact with us, 'cause this is where most answers will be found.

If it is not covered here, then please your question/s and we will gladly answer them (normally within 12 hours, and only during normal office and working hours) and then will include them on this page.

WILL THE MEDtag MEMBERSHIP ONLY HELP ME IF I AM INVOLVED IN A VEHICLE ACCIDENT?

No, MEDtag is there to assist you whether the situation is life threatening or not. This means you can make use of MEDtag in a domestic, corporate/ business, sports, social or any "emergency" type scenario. Even if you need your car towed, or to handle a flat battery.

I AM A SPORTSMAN, HOW CAN MEDtag ASSIST ME WITH A SPORTS RELATED INJURY?

It is best recommended that what ever sports you partake in like rugby, soccer, sky diving, scuba diving, car racing, comrades etc that you wear the silicone bracelet so that personal may call MEDtag. Once MEDtag is called we will arrange ambulance transport and hospitalisation (terms and conditions apply).

DO I HAVE TO WEAR THE BRACELET AS THE ONLY FORM OF MEMBER IDENTIFICATION AND TO GET ASSISTANCE WHEN NEEDED?

Not necessarily, your medical information may be attained in various ways for example: the bar-coded sticker on your vehicle, the barcode on your drivers licence and the MEDtag lanyard.

HOW WILL MEDtag HELP ME IF I BREAKDOWN ON THE HIGHWAY ?

You may call the call centre on 0861 or 0861 and through your vehicle insurance we will arrange the towing and storage if need be. On the other hand if you do not have vehicle insurance we will still arrange the towing for you, but this will be for your cost.

IF I HAVE ANY CHANGES TO MY HEALTH CONDITION, WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE TO UPATE MY PORTFOLIO AND PERSONAL/MEDICAL INFORMATION?

Once you have joined you will receive a default username and password which by logging onto our web site [ www.medtag.co.za ] you are able to update your own information and change your password.

WHAT IS THE RECOMMENDED WAY OF GETTING INFORMATION ONTO THE SITE?

It is highly recommended that once you have changed your log-on details, to make sure all your details are as up-to-date as possible. This information is loaded straight into a database which is accessible by the emergency medical staff only.

WHAT IS THE COST?

With an initial admin and set up fee of R 175, the monthly costs are as follows:

Principal Member:
R75 per month
Adult Dependant
R30 per month (per dependant)
Child Dependant:
R20 per month (per child)

WHAT IF I HAVE SENSITIVE INFORMATION THAT I WANT MINIMUM "EYES ON" WHEN I SIGN UP?

It is highly recommended that you give all the "required information" at sign-on, but that "sensitive info" can be updated by YOUR ONLY (when you have your username and password), and this will only then be seen when it is required at the time of an emergency by the appropriate medical staff.

CAN I HAVE MEDtag HANDLE ALL MY QUERIES AND / OR CLAIMS FOR MY MEDICAL AID?

As a member of MEDtag you are entitled to the services of medical aid management services who are professionals in the field of assisting clients with claims and queries. The general idea is to have one number that you can call for just about any emergency or financial situation.

DO I NEED TO BE A MEMBER OF MEDtag IF I ALREADY HAVE A MEDICAL AID?

It is not compulsory, but it is logical. If you or one of your family members are involved in an accident or any other type of emergency and they do not have any proof of medical aid or identification, MEDtag will be able to provide that information to insure that you and your family get the primary healthcare you deserve.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO DISPLAY OR HAVE CLOSE, THE IDENTIFICATION BRACELET AND HOW WILL THE EMS STAFF KNOW I AM THE MEMBER?

Part of the procedure when EMS personal arrive on scene is to look for any form of identification including medical cover. The bracelet, sticker and lanyard are designed in such a way that it is obvious to the personnel on the scene to get your personal and medical data through the database - even if you cannot speak for yourself, being unconscious etc.
